Over a very wide set of problem domains (mathematics, science, engineering, computer design, robotics, data visualisation, actuarial science, traditional DP, etc.) APL is an extremely powerful, expressive and concise programming language, typically set in an interactive environment.

It was originally created, among other things, as a way to describe computers, by expressing mathematical notation in a rigorous way that could be interpreted by a computer. Few other programming languages offer the comprehensive array functionality of APL.

Over the years we have been pushing Tactical rather than Strategic solutions. This has enabled us to concentrate on targeted solutions which might otherwise be outside of a company’s project scope. This also fits in very well with the Agile approach detailed below.

A modern, dynamic language such as APL coupled with an Agile methodology creates a very powerful combination, one which we exploit on a daily basis.

Optima Systems has a large team of highly skilled APL system designers. Each person in that team has the skills to see a project through from initial concept right through to final implementation and beyond. Small to medium sized projects can therefore be fully resourced with as little as a single consultant which keeps costs down and retains maximum efficiency. Larger projects may utilise up to ten consultants but rarely more.

Our teams have worked all over the world and undertaken projects within the Pharmaceutical, Engineering and Financial industries to name but a few.

Often our systems are required to analyse vast amounts of data, in real time, and this is where the power of APL becomes apparent. However, APL is not the only tool at our disposal. Our team of programmers have many other skills available thereby allowing us to allocate the best solution to the problem at hand. We have Graphics Designers, SQL experts, Web builders plus a variety of other main stream languages such as VB, C#, C++ etc. available to us.

Our teams can quite literally (and have) taken an original idea from concept through to branding, logo and system design then implementation, test and formal roll-out.
